Two Newcastle forwards in doubt ahead of Champions League tie

Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon may be in doubt ahead of Newcastle’s Champions League tie against Barcelona due to injury concerns.

The pair were included in the squad for the Magpies’ FA Cup defeat at home to Manchester City.

Following the game, Eddie Howe confirmed that the two attackers had been benched due to injury issues.

Murphy is dealing with a neck injury, while Gordon has picked up an ankle knock.

This will be a massive blow for Howe’s side as they take on Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League round of 16.

With Newcastle’s continued issues in front of goal, being without Gordon in this game would be a serious concern.

The 25-year-old is the second-highest goalscorer in this year’s competition with 10 goals, only behind Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.

Murphy has also scored one goal and two assists in seven Champions League games this season, with most of his minutes coming from the bench.

However, there was some positive news for Howe as Tino Livramento was able to make a return on Saturday, after being out with a hamstring injury since January.

Jacob Ramsey will also return to the matchday squad after missing the game versus City following a red card against Manchester United.
