Adam Campbell has been handed a Premier League life-line by West Bromwich Albion, who have taken the Newcastle striker on trial.
The 21-year-old – previously touted as the ‘next Wayne Rooney’ – worked his way through the youth ranks at St James’ Park but never quite got the first-team breakthrough that many predicted. Despite becoming the youngster player to feature for Newcastle in a European match at the age of 17, a series of unsuccessful loan spells, coupled with the emergence of Adam Armstrong, have sealed his fate.
A number of clubs have shown interest in signing Campbell, when his contract with the Magpies expire this summer, but, with the lure of playing Premier League football, the Baggies appear to be the front-runners for his signature.

In their most recent U21 game – a 3-0 win over Arsenal – Campbell started for West Brom, and even picked up an assist for Adil Nabi’s second goal of the afternoon, before being subbed off.
Permitting the England youth international to join Albion on trial would suggest Newcastle do not see a future for Campbell at the club.
His days may be numbered with the North-East club but his dream of playing Premier League football is still alive. From all those at Read Newcastle: good luck in the future, Adam.
