Siem de Jong has called for his Newcastle teammates to put an end to their dismal run of seven consecutive defeats when they travel to the King Power Stadium this weekend.
The Dutch international returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines (thigh injury & collapsed lung) on Saturday and, despite scoring within 14 minutes of coming off the bench, he could not prevent his side falling to defeat at the hands of Swansea City.
Newcastle – who are five points off the drop with four games to go – are in the midst of a highly competitive relegation battle, adding to the importance of this weekend’s clash with in-form Leicester. They will be looking to put an end to the Foxes incredible run of four wins on the bounce when the two sides meet at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Ahead of the clash, Siem caught up with NUFC TV to outline his expectations of his teammates: “It’s a really important one. We just need the points and it doesn’t matter against who, but if you lose against Leicester, of course the teams below you come closer.”
“We know how important it is and hopefully we can turn it around next week.”
He then went on to reflect on Saturday’s defeat to the Swans: “The most important thing was to get points and we didn’t, so I feel sad about that, but a little bit happy about being back on the pitch and being back in the first team.
“One goal wasn’t enough, but like I said, it’s not about me at this point, it’s more about the team.”
