In an interview with ESPN Radio FC, Fabricio Coloccini has revealed Newcastle United blocked his move to San Lorenzo last year.
However, the Argentine made it clear he still intends to return to his home country to retire with his boyhood club.
“Some day I would go back and be able to play in San Lorenzo and retire there. Last year we had arranged the return to San Lorenzo,” Coloccini confessed.
“It is clear that they [Newcastle] must defend their right because I had a contract.”
In spite of his clear intentions to return to his home country, it looks unlikely that Newcastle’s captain will leave the club this summer. Instead, with just one year remaining on his current contract, his departure seems inevitable for the summer 2016.
Fabricio was previously likened to the late, great Bobby Moore by former-Magpies boss Alan Pardew but his form has significantly dipped this season, much to the demise of the Geordie faithful – who have begun questioning his commitment to the cause, as well as his suitability to wear the captain’s armband.
