In an attempt to fend off competition, Newcastle United have submitted a new and improved offer to Andre Ayew’s representatives.
Their first proposal was only submitted last month but, after Ayew underwent talks with Inter, Roma and Wolfsburg, Lee Charnley believed an improved offer was required in order to secure the 25-year-old’s signature. With his current contract expiring this summer, the board were willing to offer a lucrative signing on fee, as well as doubling his current salary, in place of a transfer fee.
Ayew is one of the most sought after free agent available this summer and has a lengthy queue of potential suitors hoping to land the free agent. As a result, Newcastle face fierce competition but remain confident of landing the Ghanaian winger with this revised deal.
One potential stumbling block for any move is that one or two of the clubs interested in him can offer the potential to play Champions League football. However, the incentive of first-team football at St James’ Park may outweigh the lure of a bit part role for a bigger side.
Meanwhile, Ayew’s predecessor, Sammy Ameobi, is set to depart St James’ Park this summer with The Hawthorns looking the most likely destination for the 22-year-old. He has been a part of Newcastle’s set up for seven years but, after failing to reach his full potential whilst on Tyneside, the club have elected not to offer the academy graduate a new deal.
