Toon eye cut-price Taylor bid

Newcastle have joined the race for Swansea City left-back Neil Taylor as Graham Carr continues preparations ahead of a significant summer overhaul at the club.

With his contract set to expire next summer and no new deal upon the horizon, Taylor has attracted interest from a whole host of top-flight clubs, including Aston Villa and Sunderland, hopeful of signing him for a cut-price fee, in the region of £3million.

The 26-year-old has previously received plaudits for his confidence on the ball and excellent reading of the game but, following a lengthy spell on the sidelines two years ago, much of the hype surrounding Taylor was forgotten as fellow compatriot Ben Davies overshadowed the left-back.

Davies secured his move to Tottenham last summer, with Gylfi Sigurdsson moving in the opposite direction, which enabled Taylor to win back his spot in the first-team. Since then, Neil has been back to his best and playing a key role in Swansea’s success this campaign. As a result, Crystal Palace came calling for the Welsh international in January but the Swans knocked back both bids from the London club (£3.5million and £4.5million).

Taylor is liked by Newcastle’s chief scout Graham Carr and a summer move seems increasingly likely following the confirmation of Davide Santon’s move to Inter Milan becoming permanent, coupled with the imminent departure of Ryan Taylor – who’s contract expires at the end of the season.
