Newcastle United will go head-to-head with West Brom and Hull City for Watford striker Odion Ighalo, as Graham Carr looks to add to the Magpies’ depth in all areas.
Ighalo has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs this season by virtue of his excellent goal scoring form, that has seen the 25-year-old bag 17 league goals in 26 appearances (17 starts) – including a four-goal haul against Championship strugglers Blackpool.
As a result of his impressive form, Watford have slapped a price-tag upwards of £5million on the prolific Nigerian forward.
The Magpies have been monitoring Odion for some time, having impressed their scouts whilst at Norwegian club Lyn, prior to his move to Udinese, in 2008 – at the age of 19.
After a number of unsuccessful loans away from the Italian outlet, it appeared Newcastle had cooled his interest in the 6ft2 striker but, due to his displays in the Championship this season, Ighalo is back on Carr’s radar.
Newcastle will look to replace Argentine loanee Facundo Ferreyra this summer, who’s failed to live up to the hype surrounding to him prior to his arrival. Infact, the 23-year-old has failed to make an appearance for the Magpies, despite the managerial change at the turn of the year.
