Fans on social media slate ‘terrible’ Javier Manquillo for ‘horrendous’ performance

Newcastle suffered a heavy defeat to Leicester City, losing 4-0 at the King Power Stadium and Javier Manquillo was one of many players who underperformed, scoring a player rating of 3/10 by Chronicle Live.

The 27-year-old was torn apart on the right hand side and was guilty of sloppy defending leading to Leicester goals, so it wasn’t a surprise that supporters on social media criticised him heavily.

Against Leicester, Manquillo played for 90 minutes, had 58 touches, picked up a booking, won three aerial duels, completed 75.7% of his 37 passes, whipped in one cross, made three tackles, gave away one foul, had one interception, made one clearance, won two freekicks and had two shots.

The former Spain U21 international has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal with two assists. He’s been a regular at right-back but may find his position under threat if performances don’t improve.

Manquillo has been at Newcastle for four years and has gone on to make 94 appearances across the board since leaving Atletico Madrid. The 27-year-old still has three years left on his deal but may not see them out as things stand. Eddie Howe can’t be happy with his defender right now.
