Fans on social media blast ‘poor’ Jamaal Lascelles for ‘terrible’ performance

Newcastle United suffered a 4-0 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday afternoon and Jamaal Lascelles was one of many players who underperformed. The 28-year-old started alongside Fabian Schar at centre-back but endured a torrid time and was criticised by supporters on social media as a result.

Lascelles failed to make a tackle, gave away a penalty, failed to make an interception and won far fewer aerial duels than Schar. The former Nottingham Forest defender also made far fewer clearances and his place in the side is now being speculated about by disappointed fans.

Against Leicester, Lascelles played for 90 minutes, had 46 touches, won two aerial duels, completed 84.6% of his 39 passes, failed to make a tackle, had one clearance, failed to make an interception, blocked one shot and gave away a foul in the area.

The 28-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal. He’s been a regular at centre-back but has only been on the winning team once and has kept just one clean sheet all campaign. But after another below-par showing, might Lascelles get the axe in Newcastle’s next game?
