Fans on social media blast ‘silly decision’ as Newcastle are dealt Diego Carlos transfer blow

Newcastle United are desperate to strengthen their backline before the January transfer window shuts as they’re 18th in the Premier League for shots faced (15.7 per game) and 19th in the Premier League for goals conceded (43).

Eddie Howe is facing an injury crisis at the back with Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernández sidelined while Ciaran Clark has just returned, but Newcastle were given bad news about their pursuit of Diego Carlos.

Sky Sports said on Tuesday that Sevilla aren’t willing to lower their demands to move on the 28-year-old, so Newcastle will have to turn their attentions elsewhere. Fans on social media blasted the club for their demands and don’t want Newcastle paying over the odds for players.

Carlos joined Sevilla on a five-year deal from FC Nantes and has gone on to make 121 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals with one assist. The 28-year-old was open to a move to Newcastle, but Sevilla’s demands eventually killed the chance of getting a deal done.

Now Newcastle are looking at other options and hope to get a centre-back over the line in the coming days.
