Newcastle’s Antonio Cordero hits double as Cádiz end winless start with four-goal victory

Newcastle United winger Antonio Cordero scored twice as Cádiz beat Leganés 4-0 on Saturday to claim their first league victory of the season.

The 19-year-old opened the scoring early and added his second after the break, helping his loan club end a seven-match wait for a win.

Vladyslav Kopotun and Aïmen Moueffek also scored in a result that gave Albert Celades’ side a much-needed lift.

Spanish newspaper AS reports that Cordero struck Cádiz’s first and third goals as they secured the emphatic home victory.

Cordero gives Newcastle an encouraging loan update

Cordero is spending the 2026/27 campaign back at Cádiz after Newcastle agreed another temporary move in the summer.

The club’s official announcement confirmed he scored three goals in 21 appearances during his previous spell there in the second half of last season.

He had earlier made eight appearances for Belgian side KVC Westerlo after joining Newcastle from Málaga in summer 2025.

Read Newcastle covered the agreement for Cordero’s return to Spain in July.

For Newcastle, the value of Saturday’s performance lies in a young winger making a decisive contribution to a senior team under pressure for results.

Cordero scored six times in 39 appearances during his final season with Málaga. Building consistent attacking output at Cádiz is an important next step in his development.

One double cannot settle his longer-term Newcastle prospects, but it gives supporters a concrete reason to follow his progress.
