Newcastle United host Everton at St James’ Park on Monday night as the two sides meet for the second time in five days, with both looking to improve their Premier League form.
The Magpies will be looking to put Thursday’s Carabao Cup disappointment behind them after suffering a 3-1 defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium. James Garner, Hayden Hackney and Thierno Barry scored for Everton before Dan Burn grabbed a late consolation.
Matthias Jaissle will have plenty of lessons from the defeat and will be hoping for a far better return from his forwards. Newcastle had 28 shots against Everton but scored only one. Jaissle will be hoping his forwards are more ruthless this time around.
Newcastle United have collected 11 points from their opening eight league games, just one more than Everton, who sit on 10 points in the Premier League table.
Newcastle United vs Everton team news
Jaissle’s side have several injury concerns ahead of Monday’s game. Ewen Jaouen (thigh) and Tino Livramento (knee) are expected to miss out, while Lewis Miley remains a doubt after missing the cup tie.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo is also uncertain after missing Thursday’s game through illness. Will Osula is another concern after twisting his ankle while taking a shot in the first half against Everton. He was replaced by Yoane Wissa at half-time, with Jaissle saying it is too early to confirm his availability.
Everton are set to welcome Jarrad Branthwaite back into the side after the defender missed the previous two matches while following concussion protocols. He was unavailable against Arsenal and Newcastle’s Carabao Cup tie after suffering a concussion against Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Jack Grealish also missed Thursday’s game following a breach of club discipline. His availability is not confirmed yet.
Newcastle United vs Everton form and head-to-head
Newcastle United have won two and lost three of their last five Premier League matches. Their most recent league game ended in a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on October 25, but they failed to carry that momentum into their cup meeting with Everton.
The Toffees have a win, two draws and two defeats from their last five league matches. They have suffered consecutive 2-0 defeats against Chelsea and Arsenal, although their cup victory over Newcastle will give them confidence heading into Monday’s encounter.
Everton also won the latest league meeting between the sides, recording a 3-2 victory at St James’ Park. Newcastle previously enjoyed a 4-1 win away from home on November 29, 2025.
