Newcastle United winger Park Seung-soo is one win away from Asian Games gold after South Korea secured a final against hosts Japan.
The teams will meet at Toyota Stadium on Saturday 3 October, with kick-off at 11.30am BST.
South Korea reached the final by beating China 2-1 on Wednesday. Newcastle’s official international roundup confirmed Park was an unused substitute.
Bae Jun-ho scored the winner in the 82nd minute after Lee Young-jun had cancelled out China’s opener.
Japan subsequently beat Uzbekistan 9-8 on penalties following a 1-1 draw, completing the line-up for Saturday’s gold-medal match.
Park Seung-soo awaits Asian Games final opportunity
Park has already made his South Korea Under-23 debut during the tournament, coming off the bench in their opening 4-1 victory over Qatar.
The 19-year-old also entered the 2-0 win against Saudi Arabia in the 76th minute as South Korea secured top spot in Group D.
However, he remained on the bench for both the quarter-final victory over Vietnam and Wednesday’s semi-final. His involvement against Japan will therefore depend on selection.
Newcastle’s squad announcement in July identified Park as the youngest member of South Korea’s group. He made 24 appearances for Newcastle U21s last season after arriving from Suwon Bluewings.
South Korea are chasing a fourth successive Asian Games men’s football title, following their victories in 2014, 2018 and the delayed 2022 tournament.
