Newcastle boss Jaissle admits training challenge is ‘tougher than expected’

Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has admitted that implementing his ideas has been “tougher than expected” following a shortened pre-season.

In Ciaran Kelly’s report, published by AOL, the German pointed to preparations that were “so short and packed with friendly matches we couldn’t change”.

Jaissle acknowledged that Newcastle have shown encouraging passages alongside periods that have left him dissatisfied. However, he remains convinced his aggressive approach can succeed.

His comments identify a practical challenge: giving players enough time to understand and consistently execute the demands of a new head coach.

Newcastle face Coventry after the international break

The Magpies return to Premier League action at Coventry City on Monday 12 October, with kick-off at 8pm BST.

Our Newcastle next-match guide explains the schedule and television details.

The gap between fixtures offers work on the training pitch, although international call-ups mean Jaissle cannot spend the whole period working with his complete squad.

Joelinton and Nico González have returned to training, providing encouragement without yet confirming their availability for Coventry.

As our analysis of Newcastle’s midfield options explored, extra personnel could help Jaissle improve support around the ball and protection when possession changes hands.

For Newcastle, the useful measure after the break will be whether those responsibilities become clearer during matches. Coventry will provide the next competitive test of that work.
