Newcastle United Women midfielder Hildur Antonsdottir has been called up by Iceland for their crucial Women’s World Cup play-off against Croatia.
The 31-year-old is part of Þorsteinn Halldórsson’s squad for the two-legged tie during October’s international break.
Newcastle United confirmed Antonsdottir’s selection, with Iceland travelling to Croatia for the first leg on Friday 9 October.
Kick-off at the Aldo Drosina Stadium is scheduled for 5.45pm BST.
The return fixture takes place at Laugardalsvöllur on Tuesday 13 October, starting at 4.30pm BST.
Newcastle Women well represented internationally
Antonsdottir is not the only Newcastle player preparing for important international fixtures.
Martha Thomas, Freya Gregory, Kathleen McGovern and Rachel McLauchlan have all been named in Scotland’s squad for their World Cup qualifying double-header against Czechia.
Thomas’ selection represents her first Scotland call-up since October 2025 after an excellent start to her Newcastle career.
Read Newcastle covered Thomas’ international recall after her early WSL2 performances earned a route back into the national team.
Kaitlyn Torpey has also been selected by Australia, while Charlotte Wardlaw will join Scotland Under-23s.
Antonsdottir joined Newcastle during the summer and wears the number 16 shirt.
Her immediate focus remains club football before the international break, with Newcastle travelling to Aston Villa in the Subway Players Cup on Wednesday.
