Martha Thomas has earned a recall to the Scotland squad after making an impressive start to life with Newcastle United Women.
The striker has been included in Melissa Andreatta’s 26-player squad for October’s Women’s World Cup qualifying double-header against Czechia.
Thomas has not featured for Scotland since October 2025, but her early-season form on Tyneside has now earned her a route back into the international set-up.
Newcastle United confirmed that Thomas will be joined in the squad by Magpies teammates Freya Gregory, Kathleen McGovern and Rachel McLauchlan.
Scotland travel to Pardubice to face Czechia on Friday 9 October before hosting the return fixture in Paisley four days later.
Martha Thomas rewarded for superb Newcastle form
Thomas’ recall comes after an excellent opening few weeks of her Newcastle career.
The 29-year-old scored twice in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield United as Tanya Oxtoby’s side continued their perfect start to the WSL2 campaign.
Her impact has gone beyond those two goals.
Thomas and Beth Lumsden have quickly developed into two of Newcastle’s most dangerous attacking players and have given Oxtoby’s side a much greater threat in the final third.
As Read Newcastle highlighted following the Sheffield United victory, the pair have already been directly involved in six of United’s opening seven league goals.
Newcastle have won all three of their opening league matches, with Thomas already establishing herself as an important part of Oxtoby’s new-look attack.
That form has now been rewarded at international level.
The Scottish FA confirmed Thomas’ return as Scotland prepare for two important qualifiers on the road towards the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Thomas still has club business to take care of before joining up with the national team.
Newcastle host Leicester City at Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday before travelling to face Aston Villa in the Women’s League Cup three days later.
Another strong couple of performances would allow Thomas to head into the international window with even more momentum after earning her way back into the Scotland squad.
