Newcastle United tipped to sign former Man Utd player for free

Newcastle United added a lot of players to their ranks this summer. But did they do enough? Or were more additions required but not made in time?

If it is the latter, then the club should consider dipping into the free agency market. And there are quite a few interesting options out there, who could make a difference.

One thing that is missing at Newcastle United, to a certain extent, right now is proven Premier League experience. Established players have left and have been replaced by youngsters from other leagues.

So, perhaps adding another experienced head would not be a bad idea. And a former Manchester United player, who spent nine seasons at Old Trafford, has been named as a potential signing for the club.

Newcastle United tipped to make potential move for Anthony Martial

According to a report from Newcastle World, looking at potential free agent options for the Magpies, one of the names is that of Anthony Martial.

Still just 30 years of age, Martial is available as a free agent right now. He has left Monterrey recently following an underwhelming spell.

That being said, one cannot forget that before Monterrey, Martial actually had a fruitful time at AEK Athens. He scored nine goals and provided a couple of assists for the Greek side.

So, he can still make the difference. And if Newcastle United do end up signing him as a free agent, there is a chance that it could work out, as long as they are not expecting him to be the main man leading the line for them.

Martial never met expectations at Manchester United

Martial was once considered a Ballon d’Or level talent. In many ways, he was Kylian Mbappe before Kylian Mbappe. But it is quite clear that things did not go according to expectations.

Obviously, he did spend nine seasons playing for Manchester United, made over 300 appearances and score 90 goals. That is a fantastic career for most.

But it is hard not to feel that Martial had more potential and could have achieved more. Still just 30 years of age, he might feel he has some unfinished business in the Premier League.

Newcastle United could do with another versatile option capable of playing both as a forward and on the wing. Do not expect this to happen, but one can see why the idea has been floated nonetheless.
