Newcastle United have their fair share of injury problems at the moment. Quite a few of their players are out on the sidelines right now. The hope is that they recover quickly.
Of course, it is not just the players who are at St James’ Park. There are also those out on loan who have now started to pick up injuries.
One such player is now dealing with a groin injury. The extent of it remains to be seen. But if it proves to be significant, he might end up back at the club.
Newcastle United player suffers groin injury
According to The Shields Gazette, Luton Town are awaiting news about a groin injury suffered by defender Harrison Ashby. The defender, on loan from Newcastle United, suffered it during the game against Leyton Orient at the weekend.
As things stand, the extent of the issue is not known yet. But Jack Wilshere appeared to be hoping that the matter was not anything serious.
Obviously, Ashby’s injury is not going to have an impact on Newcastle United’s ongoing season as he is currently out on loan at Luton Town from St James’ Park.
That being said, you never want to see a player pick up an injury, whether he is at the club, out on loan or plays for a completely different team altogether.
We can only wish Ashby the best and hope that he recovers from this injury as soon as possible. Hopefully, it is not something that will keep him out for any significant length of time.
Does Ashby have a future at Newcastle?
Ashby is someone who was signed by Newcastle United very early in his career from West Ham United. But his development has simply not gone according to expectations.
Surely, the club would not have been expecting to see Ashby spend most of his time out on loan at lower division clubs. And it has been a gradual step down in quality as well.
His first two loan spells were at Championship clubs. Now, he finds himself in League One. And at 24 years of age, it is hard to imagine that he has a first-team future at Newcastle United.
