Newcastle United made last-minute move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder

It has been almost a week since the summer transfer window closed for English clubs. The dust has now well and truly settled. But even now, fresh news is emerging about things that had happened which did not break into the media at that time.

One area where Newcastle United probably could have done with another addition is their midfield. Nico Gonzalez was signed from Manchester City. And two youngsters, Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur, were brought in as well.

That being said, was enough done to replace both Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali? Perhaps not. And it was a surprise to some that another midfielder was not signed.

As it turns out, the Magpies might have been interested but could not get it done. A Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder appears to have been on their radar.

Newcastle United made failed move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder

It has now emerged that Newcastle United had made contact with Jack Hinshelwood late in the summer to explore a possible move for the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

But according to the report, the Englishman quickly made it clear that he was not interested in the move to Newcastle United from Brighton & Hove Albion.

It is not hard to see why Newcastle United might have indeed been interested in Hinshelwood. At 21 years of age, he is the exact profile that the Magpies have tried to bring in all summer.

Who is Jack Hinshelwood, the midfielder Newcastle failed to sign?

Hinshelwood has a decent bit of experience under his belt despite his youth. The midfielder has made 81 senior appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion already, having come through their youth system.

It is also worth mentioning that he has made a very bright start to this season and already scored twice. So, this might be a player who is now starting to make his presence truly felt in the senior level and could be ready to go to the next level.

As a result, this summer might have been the perfect time for Newcastle United to sign someone like Hinshelwood. But as it turns out, they simply were not able to do so.

The player was seemingly not interested in moving to Newcastle United. If true, he would not be the first one to have snubbed a move to St James’ Park this summer.

The likes of Johan Manzambi, Victor Munoz and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did the same. And there were potentially many others behind the scenes, even if news did not break to the media.
