Coming into this gameweek, Newcastle United fans would have been quietly confident about the side getting a win against Bournemouth. The Magpies had looked impressive at the start of the campaign, as Matthias Jaissle’s era got off to a brilliant start.
On the other hand, Bournemouth came into this game searching for their first win of the season. And after 35 minutes this afternoon, it started to look like that was on the cards for the Cherries.
Bournemouth took a quick 2-0 lead against Newcastle United in their own backyard. And it would have been easy for Jaissle’s side to drop their shoulders, accept the result and move on.
Instead, they fought back and were ultimately able to salvage a draw out of this game. In the process, they also helped create some Premier League history, albeit unwanted if you are a Bournemouth fan.
Newcastle United’s comeback draw creates Premier League history
When Jacob Ramsey’s strike found the back of the net in the 88th minute of the game, not many Newcastle United fans would have been aware that some Premier League history had been created in the process.
Bournemouth became the first team in Premier League history to not win any of their first three games of the season even when scoring the opening goal on each occasion.
They had led against Man City before losing 2-1. That was followed by a draw against Everton under the same circumstances. And now, this result against Bournemouth.
Marco Rose has a lot to think about when it comes to converting good starts into wins for his Bournemouth team. As for Newcastle United, there are worries of their own.
Newcastle United are a project, that needs to be accepted
Newcastle United have exceeded all expectations with their start to the season. But at the same time, it might be important to step back and let the excitement trickle down a bit.
Truth be told, this team is far from being great. It is a work in progress. And it is important to treat it as such. Unnecessary and unrealistic expectations should not be placed on these players.
This team has lost important players and largely replaced them with youngsters. It will take time to work out. Jaissle is in his first season in the Premier League as well.
But it was good to see that this team is ready to fight. That is always a positive. But in the long run, it is important to accept this as a project rather than expecting immediate results.
