Manchester United were linked with a move for Lewis Hall all summer. But ultimately, they were not able to sign him from Newcastle United, who had already seen several of their key players leave and could not afford another one.
If the Old Trafford club had made a move for Hall under different circumstances, perhaps something could have happened. But under these circumstances, a move was never on the cards. You can see Newcastle United’s side of things.
Hall is a fantastic talent to most. But Roy Keane does not believe that he is a good defender and made it clear that he does not think he is the answer for Manchester United.
So, this has raised fresh questions about whether Manchester United will make another move for him in the future or look at someone else. Well, now we have the answer to that.
Manchester United make decision on Lewis Hall
According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United fully intend to return for Hall in 2027 after failing to land the Newcastle United left-back’s signature this summer.
The one worrying thing about this entire saga for Newcastle United is that Hall was believed to be keen on the move. It is believed that Man Utd were encouraged by the player’s camp and intermediaries to make a firm move.
Newcastle United should be happy that a move did not end up happening this summer. Now, it is up to them to convince Hall over the course of this season that St James’ Park is the place for him in the long run.
Can they do that? That is impossible to predict. But there is no denying that Newcastle United have made a better start to the campaign than most would have expected.
In fact, they were being viewed as outside relegation contenders. Instead, they were unlucky to draw against Liverpool and then won 2-0 against Tottenham Hotspur in their own backyard.
Newcastle United need to keep Hall
It is easy to see why Hall might have been keen on a move away this summer. Manchester United are still one of the biggest clubs in world football. You cannot deny that appeal.
Also, Newcastle United simply did not seem to be moving in the right direction. They saw three of their best players leave, along with long-term manager Eddie Howe.
So, it is natural for someone like Hall to reconsider his long-term plans at Newcastle United. But new boss Matthias Jaissle has already shown that he is capable of getting a tune out of this team.
If Newcastle United end up having a good season, do not be surprised to see Hall put pen to paper on a new deal at some point over the course of the campaign.
