‘Here we go’ – Finally some good news for Newcastle United

The Newcastle United story this summer has been full of exits and heartbreaks. The Magpies have seen three of their best players leave within the space of months.

Bruno Guimaraes joined Arsenal. Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham Hotspur. And Anthony Gordon will don the FC Barcelona jersey from next season.

The exits have not been limited to the pitch either. Eddie Howe walked away in the middle of pre-season. And for all the criticism he received, he will go down as arguably the best manager in Newcastle United’s modern history, having won the League Cup and taken them on two Champions League adventures.

Naturally, there is a need for some upliftment around St James’ Park at the moment. And it looks like they are now set to make another signing.

Fabrizio Romano drops the ‘here we go’

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Benfica to sign Amar Dedic. The Italian journalist has given it his famous ‘here we go’.

The deal is in place at a €35 million package with a sell-on included for Benfica. The Portuguese club wanted Dedic to stay, but the player wanted the Newcastle United move as his top priority and is excited to work with Matthias Jaissle.

It is worth pointing out that Dedic and Jaissle already have a history together. They have worked at FC Liefering and RB Salzburg in the past.

So, it would be easy to guess that Jaissle was a driving factor behind this move. Now, we can only wait for it to become official. Obviously, in the recent past, Newcastle United have been on the verge of signing players on more than one occasion, only for it to fall apart.

What does Dedic add to this Newcastle United team?

It is quite easy to see what Dedic brings to Newcastle United. Firstly, he is 23 years of age. So, he falls under the category of a youngster with a ton of potential.

At the same time though, he has plenty of experience under his belt already. He has already played for top clubs like RB Salzburg, Marseille and Benfica, where there is an emphasis on constant winning.

On top of that, Dedic is a full Bosnia and Herzegovina international with more than 30 senior caps to his name. Those experiences would have shaped him for the challenges ahead at Newcastle United.

Of course, the Magpies already have Tino Livramento. One cannot overlook his injury history though. And with the recent departures as well, the club needed to make some additions in the full-back positions.
