Newcastle United’s summer transfer window has been filled with big-name exits and failure to get their top targets. But finally, there seems to be some room for positivity.
Matthias Jaissle has arrived as the new manager and it looks like the club are set to reunite him with a familiar face in the form of Amar Dedic.
In the past, Jaissle and Dedic have worked together at FC Liefering and RB Salzburg. So, one would imagine that this is a move the manager has been pushing for.
It is not over the line yet. But it looks to be on the verge of completion. And at the same time, it looks like the Magpies already have their next transfer target in mind as well.
Newcastle United already eyeing next target
According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are set to close the Dedic deal with Benfica soon. The final round of talks has been scheduled.
The new full-back is coming soon for Jaissle. It is all agreed on the player’s side. Also, up next for Newcastle United is a midfielder.
Obviously, it is not a secret that Newcastle United need to strengthen in the middle of the park. They have lost two key midfielders in the form of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
On top of that, Joelinton and Joe Willock are expected to leave this summer as well. So, all things considered, The Magpies will need a lot more reinforcements in midfield.
Admittedly, the club have signed Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur already. But those two have played a combined 50 competitive senior-level games so far. They might not be ready for the starting spot at Newcastle Untied.
Who is this midfielder?
Who is going to be this mystery midfielder? Well, that is unclear at the moment. Newcastle United have been linked with a long list of midfielders in recent times.
There have been suggestions that an offer has already been made to Joao Palhinha, who had seemed headed to Aston Villa. Could Newcastle United pull it off? Time shall tell.
Other than that, they have also been linked with high-profile names like Felix Nmecha. Of course, it would take a significant transfer fee to convince Borussia Dortmund to part ways with the German international.
Speaking of German internationals, Angelo Stiller is another midfielder Newcastle United are believed to have on their radar. And he could be available for a fraction of the transfer fee it would take to sign him international teammate.
Perhaps there is no set target at the moment at all. Instead, Newcastle United have a shortlist of midfielders and will try to bring in the best on they possibly can.
