Newcastle United injury update on Anthony Elanga after being stretchered off

The Valencia vs Newcastle United game at the Mestalla did not seem like much of a friendly at times. But ultimately, Matthias Jaissle kicked off his time with the Magpies with a 2-1 win.

It came against a 10-man Valencia side though. And that was because Jose Gaya was shown a straight red card for a horror tackle on Anthony Elanga.

Elanga had to be stretchered off. That is the main talking point coming out of the game. The Magpies have been significantly weakened this summer and the last thing they need is an injury. There is an update on his situation following the match.

Injury update on Elanga

According to Chronicle Live, despite being carried off in pain, Elanga is believed to be OK and was up and walking in the dressing room after treatment.

The report further confirms that Elanga suffered a contusion to the shin and was still in agony. But he is believed to have avoided serious injury.

Of course, this is a developing situation. It has not been long since the match ended. So, we will keep an eye out for any fresh updates as they appear.

As for Elanga, we can only wish him the best. Hopefully, he has not picked up any sort of serious injury and is back available as soon as possible.

Elanga has a big season ahead for Newcastle United

Any kind of injury will make things even more difficult for the Magpies. They have already lost far too much quality and experience in this window.

Even though Elanga is only 24 years of age, in terms of Premier League experience, he has to be considered a senior player for Newcastle United right now.

He came through the ranks at Manchester United and played 55 times for them, followed by 82 games for Nottingham Forest. He also appeared on 49 occasions for Newcastle last season.

Yes, his time at Newcastle United has not been a success so far. He was signed last summer for a transfer fee in the region of £55 million.

Based on that figure, he did not have the desired impact. So, this is a big season for Elanga and his future at St James’ Park. Hopefully, an early season injury will not have any impact on that.
