Newcastle United have a lot of problems to deal with right now. Of course, the biggest of them is the situation they find themselves in after the core of the team has been completely wiped out this summer.
Eddie Howe left in the middle of pre-season and has been replaced by Matthias Jaissle. The Magpies are yet to find satisfactory replacements for Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes though.
Amid all this, Tino Livramento’s injury has been in the back of people’s minds. But it is a situation worth keeping an eye on for sure.
Livramento was surprisingly called up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup. But in what was a nightmare piece of bad luck, he suffered a groin injury on the eve of the tournament and has been out of action since. There now seems to be an estimation on when he could be back though.
Tino Livramento return update
Livramento has missed Newcastle United’s pre-season games so far. And the English international is not present at La Manga with his teammates either.
There is a positive update though. Livramento has now posted pictures of himself working out on his social media. And according to a report from Newcastle World, he was always eyeing a return towards the end of pre-season.
Newcastle United fans will want to see Livramento back to full fitness as soon as possible. The Magpies are absolutely paper-thin right now when it comes to their options at right-back.
But at the same time, that should not be the reason to push him back into action before he is ready. Livramento needs to be given all the time he needs to fully recover and return to the pitch.
For now, it looks like he is back to doing gym work from the photos that he has posted on his Instagram. That is a step in the right direction. The next target has to be getting back on the grass.
Newcastle United need to sign right-back
Newcastle United have signed five players so far this summer. Two of them are goalkeepers in the form of Ewen Jaouen and Lukas Hornicek. Bazoumana Toure might be viewed as the replacement for Gordon. Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba have arrived in midfield.
No right-back has been signed so far though. That is despite the fact that both Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth have left this summer while Livramento is out with his injury.
So, one can only hope that the Magpies have been working on a right-back signing quietly in the background. Otherwise, it is a decision that has to be questioned.
