Sky Sport confirm Newcastle United are preparing offer for £100m midfielder

Newcastle United need to make some statement signings this summer. They have raised around £250 million following the departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur and now, Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal.

While the Guimaraes to Arsenal move has not been officially announced yet, it is only a matter of time. Everything is in place. Do not be surprised if it happens today. At the latest, one would expect it to become official over the weekend.

Not only are Newcastle United losing arguably their best player but also their captain. Combine that with all the other departures over the past twelve months, and the exit of Eddie Howe, and this is a tough spot to be for the club.

So, they need to bring back some positivity around the place. And it looks like they are getting ready to submit an offer for a £100 million-rated player.

Sky Sport confirm Newcastle United plotting offer for midfielder

According to a report from Sky Sport, initial discussions with Felix Nmecha’s representatives have already taken place. Newcastle United intend to make an offer to Borussia Dortmund.

Newcastle United are keen on signing Nmecha. But Borussia Dortmund would only be willing to negotiate for a transfer fee of over €100 million to €120 million.

Of course, that would make Nmecha the most expensive signing in Newcastle United history. It would be more than the fee they paid to sign Nick Woltemade, another Bundesliga standout, last summer. And that did not quite work out.

Yet, Newcastle United do need to go big to replace Guimaraes this summer. They simply cannot bring in another youngster and hope that it works out. That won’t be enough to satisfy the fans, who have already grown frustrated by how this transfer window has played out. A name like Nmecha might be though.

Is Felix Nmecha the right man for the job?

Nmecha is a full German international. He has also proven himself at the senior level at Borussia Dortmund. So, he does have the pedigree to replace Guimaraes.

At 25 years of age, he is also at a point in his career where he is just heading towards his prime on the pitch. So, it is the perfect time to make a move for Nmecha.

Nmecha came through the youth ranks at Manchester City. So, he is no stranger to English football either. As a result, the adjustment period should minimal.

He is without a doubt the most high-profile name Newcastle United have been linked with over the past few weeks. The reports have been conflicting at times. But now, it looks like they are indeed moving forward in trying to sign the German international.
