These have been some busy days for Newcastle United. Eddie Howe has left the club, and captain Bruno Guimaraes has followed close behind, as the Brazilian midfielder is headed to Arsenal. On the other hand, the Magpies have now officially announced the arrival of Matthias Jaissle as their new manager.
Jaissle comes with a big reputation, having won back-to-back Champions League Elite titles with Al-Ahli. But if his stint at Newcastle United has to be a success, the club will need to back him in the transfer market.
The club have brought in plenty of money with the departures of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and now Guimaraes. About a combined £245 million. That needs to be reinvested into rebuilding the squad. So far, mostly youngsters have been signed, who might or might not make an impact.
Newcastle United have already strengthened on the wing by signing Bazoumana Toure. Now, it looks like they might be looking to make an addition on the opposite flank as well. In fact, a deal is getting closer with an agreement found between the club and the player.
Newcastle United closing in on signing winger
According to a report from DZ Foot, Anis Hadj Moussa is getting closer to joining Newcastle United. The Algerian international has reached an agreement in principle with the Magpies on a five-year contract.
Moussa could earn around £120,000 per week, or approximately £6.2 million per year, excluding bonuses, on that new deal. And it is believed that he only wants a move to England.
Moussa is currently on the books at Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie and has been a standout performer for them for quite some time.
Moussa plays on the right flank, while Toure frequents the left. So, both of them could work together in the same starting XI and this might be Newcastle United’s new pairing on the wings, if things go according to plan.
Matthias Jaissle has wanted to sign Anis Hadj Moussa in the past
Moussa has spent two seasons playing for Feyenoord so far. In that time, he has scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists in 83 appearances.
He is 24 years of age and is established at both club and international levels, and even represented Algeria in the World Cup. So, he should be an immediate starter for the Magpies. The kind of signing they need to make.
Also worth pointing out is that it looks like Matthias Jaissle has had his eye on Moussa for quite some time. It is believed that he has tried to sign him for Al-Ahli in the past and failed to do so.
It remains to be seen if a transfer can be pulled off by Newcastle United to finally make it happen. While it has been suggested that a contract has been agreed, a transfer fee still needs to be found between the two clubs.
