Fabrizio Romano confirms Newcastle United working on signing midfielder

Newcastle United have endured a very difficult summer transfer window so far. They have lost key players like Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon already, but the biggest blow might be yet to come.

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes had already agreed personal terms with Arsenal. And now, it looks like there has been a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs as well.

That had become pretty inevitable, especially following Eddie Howe’s exit. It appears that the Magpies have now accepted that as well and have started towards looking at alternative solutions.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have started plans to bring in a new midfielder with Matthias Jaissle involved in the process. Bruno Guimarães is expected to become an Arsenal player shortly.

Who will replace Guimaraes at Newcastle United?

To be honest, it is going to be very difficult to find a player capable of replacing Guimaraes. He is one of the very best in the Premier League and showed his quality at the World Cup as well, registering four assists for Brazil.

It is worth pointing out that Newcastle United have been linked with midfielders for weeks, as there has always been a realistic possibility that Guimaraes could leave this summer.

One of them is his Brazilian national teammate, Danilo. He was also at the World Cup and featured four times. The 25-year-old has Premier League experience as well, having played for Nottingham Forest a couple of years.

Is he as good as Guimaraes? I would not say so. At least not based on what we have seen so far. But he does have the experience and quality to be a starter for Newcastle United.

Matthias Jaissle favourite also linked with Newcastle

Of course, the arrival of Jaissle could play a big factor as well. If Newcastle United want the German manager to be a success, they need to back him in the transfer market.

Consequently, it should not come as a surprise that Newcastle United have been linked with a player that he knows well from his previous clubs.

The player in question is Croatian international and current Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic. The two worked extensively during their time together at RB Salzburg. But their paths had already crossed by that point at FC Liefering.

So, Jaissle will know exactly what he will get with Sucic. If the manager wants the Croatian midfielder to be the replacement for Guimaraes, the Magpies should try their best to deliver.
