Newcastle United could do with reinforcements in a number of positions, with one of them being on the flanks. It was already viewed as an area of weakness by some and was further weakened with the departure of Anthony Gordon. The Englishman has joined FC Barcelona.
In return, Newcastle United have signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim. But is that going to be enough? Or do the club need more depth on the wings?
They have been linked with other players as well. One of them is Amad Diallo of Manchester United, who has lately been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.
The Ivorian winger enjoyed a breakout 24/25 campaign but seemed to take a step back last season. That has led to speculation that he could now be on his way out of Old Trafford. But are Man Utd open to that possibility?
Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United stance on Amad exit
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United have no intention to part ways with Amad this summer. Despite links with several clubs, the club mantain they want to keep and trust the winger.
Of course, one of the clubs linked with Amad was Newcastle United. If the interest was genuine, this will come as a blow to the Magpies.
It is safe to say that Amad has endured a roller-coaster ride since joining Manchester United from Atalanta. And it is hard to believe that that was over five years ago.
Since then, he has spent time on loan at Rangers and Sunderland, had a breakout campaign and now finds himself at a bit of a crossroads. It is easy to see why Man Utd might be willing to stick with him. But at 24 years of age, sooner or later, he will need to find some consistency.
Would Amad be a good signing for Newcastle United?
This feels somewhat meaningless, as it looks like Manchester United want to keep Amad. But you never know what could end up happening in the transfer market.
Things change rapidly. Just look at how the Johan Manzambi saga transpired. So, the Magpies should continue to monitor the winger’s situation, just in case he ends up becoming available.
On his day, Amad is an elite talent. In the 24/25 campaign, he scored eight goals and provided eight assists in just 26 games for Manchester United in the Premier League. Those are impressive numbers and came almost out of nowhere.
But then, in the 25/26 season, with hopes high, Amad could only register two goals and four assists in 32 outings in the Premier League.
So, you never know which version of Amad you will get. But if a coach can find a way to keep him performing consistently, he has the potential to be one of the best wingers in the Premier League.
