It looks like a transfer race could be developing in the Premier League. Following Sandro Tonali’s exit, it is pretty clear that Newcastle United need to strengthen in the midfield department this summer.
The club are believed to be on the verge of signing Sean Steur from Ajax. But more is expected. The 18-year-old is considered to be a top talent but he won’t solve their problems right off the bat and will need time to develop.
Newcastle United are believed to have their eyes on more established players as well. But it looks like one of them is also on the radar of Aston Villa.
Newcastle have already bid but Aston Villa still want midfielder
Reports in Italy earlier in the summer suggested that Newcastle United had already put in an offer for Arthur Atta of Udinese. Curiously, there have not been many developments since. Could Aston Villa swoop in and get their man?
As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, Att is one of the top targets for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa in view of their participation in next year’s Champions League.
It is also worth noting that Aston Villa have been handed a major blow at the ongoing World Cup. Amadou Onana has suffered an injury that will keep him out for six to eight months at least.
So, they will need add some quality in the middle of the park for the long-term absence of Onana. Could that end up being Atta from Udinese?
Who will sign Arthur Atta this summer?
It is unclear how serious Newcastle United’s interest is at this point in time. The fact that no fresh updates have emerged since the news of the offer broke a few weeks back might be an indication that the move is headed nowhere.
Or perhaps it is a sign that the Magpies are working hard in the background. Let’s not forget that there had not been any indication that a deal for Steur was in the works either.
So, Newcastle United are very capable of working in silence. Now, it remains to be seen whether Aston Villa end up making a push to sign Atta or not.
The 23-year-old French midfielder enjoyed a solid season in Serie A with Udinese last season. And a move to the Premier League might be on the cards for him.
It is worth mentioning that Newcastle United are being linked with a variety of midfielders at this point in time. So, there are certainly keeping their options open.
