It is no secret that Newcastle United could be looking to shake up their goalkeeping ranks this summer. The club have already signed the highly-rated Ewen Jaouen from Reims. That showed a lot of belief in someone from the French Ligue 2.
It has also been constantly reported in the media that Newcastle United are monitoring the situation of James Trafford. The English international is expected to leave Manchester City in search of playing time and is believed to be open to a move to St James’ Park.
On the other hand, Nick Pope could be on his way out. There have been suggestions that Ipswich Town will make a move for the Newcastle United goalkeeper this summer.
So, when rumours broke that Newcastle United had submitted a bid for a Bundesliga goalkeeper. It came out of the blue. And as it turns out, it was not accurate.
Newcastle United’s €12m bid rumour is false
According to Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg, rumours linking Newcastle United with Moritz Nicolas are currently wide of the mark.
There have been no talks, no negotiations and no interest registered. Naturally, there is also no €12 million transfer offer on the table.
So, as it turns out, Newcastle United have not made any kind of movement when it comes to Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas.
Some reports had emerged earlier that the club had put in a €12 million bid. But it appears to have been merely a rumour without any substance behind it.
James Trafford is the one Newcastle United should be after
To be very honest, if the Magpies really want to bring in a new number one this summer, it is Trafford that they should be trying to sign.
The English goalkeeper had joined Manchester City last summer with the intention of being Pep Guardiola’s number one. That just goes to show how highly he is regarded.
Of course, things did not go according to plan. When Gianluigi Donnarumma became available out of nowhere, Man City did not pass on the chance and signed him.
Unfortunately for Trafford, that meant that he was number two. Even then, he played a starring role in their League Cup and FA Cup wins, showing he is capable of being part of a winning unit.
Now, he could be on the move again this summer, and for a transfer fee in the region of £40 million. In many ways, that is a no-brainer if you are Newcastle United. He could solve the goalkeeping problem for the next decade.
