Fabrizio Romano drops worrying Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal transfer update

Bruno Guimaraes’ future at Newcastle United is up in the air at this point in time. The club seem to be keen for the Brazilian midfielder to stay at St James’ Park. But in modern football, if someone wants to leave, it is almost impossible to prevent it from happening.

This summer, we have already witnessed the departures of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon. Last year, Alexander Isak joined Liverpool after a long-drawn transfer saga.

So, nothing can ever be ruled out, especially on the back of Guimaraes’ impressive World Cup campaign for Brazil. He has registered four assists to his name already. And that surely would have caught the eye of clubs across the planet.

Arsenal are one of those believed to be interested. Newcastle United have rebuffed one attempt from Mikel Arteta’s side already. But Fabrizio Romano has not completely ruled out the possibility of them trying again.

What Fabrizio Romano has said about Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal situation

The Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel while speaking about the situation involving Newcastle, Arsenal and Guimaraes:

“Arsenal had a bid rejected, £55 million. Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the player, so what I can tell you in addition to all of this is that he really, really likes the player.

“Mikel Arteta was driving this interest for Bruno Guimaraes internally. It’s not the first time Arsenal go for him. Even in the past, they were considering the possibility to go for Bruno Guimaraes. Always been a player appreciated by Arteta, but now with Newcastle, it’s not going to be an easy one at all because Newcastle again made money with Gordon, made money with Tonali, and they already told Bruno Guimaraes and they told people close to him that they want to keep the player.

“So, it’s not going to be easy at all for Arsenal to get it done. They could try again. I would not exclude that because Arsenal really consider Bruno the top target in midfield, but, at the moment, from Newcastle, the message is doors closed. So, let’s see what’s going to happen there.”

So, it looks like there is still a chance that Arsenal could come back, looking to sign Guimaraes. And those chances are only going to increase, the better he does at the ongoing World Cup.

Let us not forget that Arsenal might not be the only club interested in signing Guimaraes either. There are plenty of other teams who could do with midfielders and might be monitoring the Brazilian in the background, even though there interest has not come out in the media.

Newcastle United must find a way to convince Guimaraes to stay

Ultimately, the onus is on the Magpies to convince Guimaraes that St James’ Park is still the place to be. He joined the club in early 2022 from Lyon in a €50 million.

Since then, he has been involved in some of the biggest moments in the club’s history. They have won the League Cup, and had runs in the Champions League.

Now, this is an important juncture in his career. Guimaraes is in his prime at 28 years of age. He is coming off what will most likely be the best World Cup campaign of his career.

If he wants to leave Newcastle United and join a club that will compete for major trophies on a constant basis, this is the perfect time in many ways. But there is also an argument to be made for his overall legacy in the game.

If Guimaraes chooses to stay on, despite having seen the likes of Isak, Tonali and Gordon leave around him, that will only enhance his legacy amongst Newcastle United fans. Now, the choice is up to him.
