Newcastle United will be looking to strengthen their options on the flanks after seeing Anthony Gordon leave this summer. The England international was a key man for the Magpies and made a somewhat surprising move to FC Barcelona recently.
It had looked like Newcastle United had got their man as well. They had agreed a deal to bring in Victor Munoz, only for Liverpool to swoop in late and pour cold water over the Magpies’ plans.
So, Newcastle United will have to move their sights elsewhere. And it looks like they have been offered the chance to sign a winger who will be joining Bayer Leverkusen on July 1.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle have also been offered Bayer Leverkusen winger Kerim Alajbegovic. But the Magpies are unlikely to pursue the Bosnia & Herzegovina World Cupper as it stands.
Who is Kerim Alajbegovic?
Alajbegovic came through the youth ranks of Bayer Leverkusen. But he moved to RB Salzburg last summer, and it is there that he made his breakthrough in senior football.
Alajbegovic was able to make an impression in his debut season with RB Salzburg. He scored 13 goals and provided four assists for them across all competitions.
That was enough to convince to go out and sign Alajbegovic back from RB Salzburg. He will return to the German club next month.
Yet, he is already being linked with a move to Newcastle United as well. For now though, it does not look like the Magpies are kee on that idea.
Who could Newcastle United sign on the wing?
Alajbegovic was a standout for RB Salzburg last season and is currently representing Bosnia & Herzegovina at the World Cup. Yet, it looks like Newcastle United might be aiming higher.
The Magpies might be keen on getting someone with more experience and proven quality. It is very possible that someone like Alajbegovic might take some time to adjust.
After an underwhelming season in which they finished 12th in the league, time is of the essence if you are Eddie Howe. So, the manager might be seeking more of an established name.
They have already been linked with a few players. Real Betis’ Moroccan international Abde Ezzalzouli is one such name. Another is Said El Mala of FC Koln.
So, it will be very interesting to see how this entire saga plays out. But expect to see Newcastle United sign a winger in this summer transfer window.
