Newcastle United want €50m winger after Victor Munoz transfer collapse

It had looked like Newcastle United were bound to sign Victor Munoz. He was viewed as the first choice to replace Anthony Gordon, who left for Barcelona. A transfer fee was also believed to have been agreed over the move.

Yet, Liverpool swooped in at the final moment and managed to get a deal done. As a result, Newcastle United missed out on a deal for Munoz.

Now, they will need to look out for alternative targets. The Magpies have already been linked with Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli. But he is not the only one on their radar this summer.

They also seem to have a Bundesliga standout on their radar. But they are not the only club trying to sign him from FC Koln this summer.

Newcastle United linked with move for German winger

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are showing interest in Cologne winger Said El Mala. He has been one of the standouts in the German top flight this season.

El Mala scored 13 goals and provided five assists in the previous campaign. On the surface level, those figures look impressive already.

But they are even more impressive when you have the context. El Mala was playing his very first season of Bundesliga football. And he was most certainly successful in making a proper impression.

It was not too long ago, that El Mala was playing in the German third division. But he has most certainly made a name for himself this season. Now, a big move awaits.

Newcastle interested in El Mala

El Mala is proving to be very selective about his next move. The likes of Brighton and Brentford were keen to sign him as well but failed to do so.

It is also believed that it would take a transfer fee in the region of €50 million to convince Koln to part ways with the youngster. Let’s see if the Magpies are able to make a move of that magnitude in this window.

And even if they do, would El Mala be open to the move? Or would he view his immediate future in Germany rather than away in England?

It is worth mentioning that Chelsea are another team who are rumoured to be keeping an eye out on El Mada. No move has been made the Blues yet. But it might not take long for that to change, in case Chelsea are indeed interested.
