Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is already part of the club’s folklore and is set to remain at the club this season.

However, over the past 48 hours, an outrageous rumour emerged on social media that caught the Magpies’ attention.

It wasn’t from a journalist or a publication; rather, from an ITK who claimed Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi has asked the club to sign the Brazil international.

And it’s safe to say the Newcastle United fans were having none of it as they reacted hilariously on social media.

Newcastle United fans laugh off Bruno Guimaraes exit talks

Since joining the club in 2022, Guimaraes has become one of the most reliable midfielders in the Premier League.

He’s Newcastle’s captain and their main man in midfield, with the team seemingly built around him. He has also gone on to become a regular feature for Brazil and is expected to play a starring role for Carlo Ancelotti at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As seen below, a wild rumour emerged on Tottenham’s interest in the 29-year-old.

And while one Newcastle fan referred to it as a nonsensical rumour, a few others were a bit more scathing.

@Robert_Dusk8 wrote, “Stop quoting dumb sources, ” while @AnthonyAshton1 simply added ‘Behave,’ with a handful of laughter emojis.

To be fair to the Tottenham faithful, they weren’t having any of it either as they downplayed it as a rather silly transfer rumour.

@Deaneeman24 wrote, “Will this be the summer 2026 transfer we tried trophy?” while @joseroque900 added, “Let’s not waste time on ‘dreams’ and get the serious stuff done.”

Guimaraes staying put

Last summer saw the departure of Alexander Isak, who was not only the club’s best player at the time but also an important figure inside the dressing room due to his match-winning ability.

And now, Anthomy Gordon has left for Barcelona and senior players like Kieran Trippier, John Ruddy and Jamal Lascelles have also moved on.

Keeping Guimaraes – who is Newcastle’s best player and their captain – will be an absolute non-negotiable for Howe this season.

He missed a chunk of the previous season due to a hamstring injury but still emerged as their Player of the Season, which goes to show just how good he is.

And with the greatest respect, Tottenham have finished 17th in each of their last two Premier League season. So pigs would have to fly and they need to move mountains to sign a player like Guimaraes from one of the sides they could compete with for a spot in Europe next season.

Silly season has well and truly kicked off and people have too much free time on their hands ahead of the FIFA World Cup, eh?
