- Fabrizio Romano restates Manchester United’s Lewis Hall interest
- Red Devils expected to make concrete offer in the near future
- Newcastle’s no-sale stance will likely depend on other possible departures
Fabrizio Romano has spoken on his YouTube channel about the future of Lewis Hall after speculation arose surrounding a possible move to Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils have been tracking Hall for some time now and are expected to make a move for the 21-year-old at some point during the transfer window.
Newcastle United are reluctant to sell Hall and will demand a fee in the region of £50m-£60m to even engage in a conversation with Manchester United, which is thought to be a price too high for the Red Devils.
What did Fabrizio Romano say?
Speaking about Manchester United’s interest in Hall, Romano said, “Left-back is still a position they (Man United) want to cover. Lewis Hall is the player they really love.
“Then this depends on Newcastle because Newcastle’s stance is that they already sold Anthony Gordon, and the expectation is for Sandro Tonali to go this summer. So to sell also Lewis Hall, could be too much.
“It is not going to be easy, Newcastle will not make it easy to sell Lewis Hall. It would take important money, an important transfer fee, and then because we know what Newcastle’s stance is, it could be complicated; it could take some time – we saw what happened last summer with Alexander Isak.
“So for sure, a situation to follow with Lewis Hall, with strong interest from Manchester United with nothing guaranteed or easy on this one.”
What it means for Newcastle
For Newcastle United, this isn’t really anything new. The club was well aware that Manchester United were going to have a heavy interest in Hall this summer.
It is almost a guarantee that Manchester United will throw in a tester bid within the next few weeks to see exactly where Newcastle are at.
That bid will likely be rejected at this stage due to the stance still being massively in favour of retaining Hall’s services next season.
Whether that remains the case down the line is yet to be seen, but the reports that Hall is ‘unhappy’ on Tyneside and has fallen out with manager Eddie Howe are thought to be wide of the mark, which does create a stronger negotiating position than if those rumours had been true.
If Sandro Tonali is to depart, that will further decrease the likelihood that Hall leaves, simply because the Magpies can’t afford to lose that many big players in one transfer window.
