- Marcus Rashford to return to Manchester United after Barcelona loan spell
- Fabrizio Romano says Catalan giants want to relocate terms
- Rashford has also been linked with a move to Newcastle United
Marcus Rashford has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his club football future is still a major talking point.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the attacker’s situation, who spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona.
Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Rashford, but the Catalan giants have an option to sign him permanently for a fee believed to be in the region of €30m.
The deadline to complete that deal is the 15th of July, and Romano has shared fresh details on Rashford’s future that could be music to the ears of the Magpies faithful.
Newcastle United presented with opportunity to swoop for Marcus Rashford
Rashford fared quite well for Barcelona last season and was set to sign for the club permanently.
However, Hansi Flick’s side launched a surprise move for Anthony Gordon and ended up signing him, while they are also in the running to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid.
Earlier today, Romano wrote on his X account that Barcelona will not exercise the option to sign Rashford permanently for €30m, due to which he is set to return to Manchester United.
However, they are still interested in the player and could look to re-negotiate a deal for him later in the transfer window.
This obviously presents Newcastle United with an opportunity to swoop for the England international.
Despite his desire to return to Barcelona, the prospect of having regular game time in the Premier League could tempt the forward to consider a move to St James’ Park, if the Magpies launch a move for him.
Rashford fits Newcastle United like a glove
Gordon was Newcastle United’s most productive forward last season. In addition to that, the Englishman’s versatility allowed him to play out wide and centrally.
Rashford is cut from the same cloth and is no stranger to the Premier League, having burst onto the scene as an exciting teenager at Old Trafford to become one of the most productive attackers in the world.
Yes, his career has stalled in recent years. But the 28-year-old proved during his loan spells with Aston Villa and Barcelona that he can be more than useful in a functioning team with the right philosophy.
€30m for a player of Rashford’s ability, age and pedigree is an absolute no-brainer for Newcastle United. Barcelona are still in the race, but if there’s even a slight chance of snapping him up, the Magpies need to do everything it takes to bring him to the club.
