- Newcastle United brace for £70-80m bid
- Manchester United know next transfer move
- Sandro Tonali open to summer exit
Manchester United are set to make a concrete transfer move for Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali as their next piece of summer business, according to reports.
CaughtOffside claim that the Red Devils will ‘move for Tonali’ next after agreeing a deal to bring Atalanta midfielder Ederson to Old Trafford for £35 million.
The outlet reports that both manager Michael Carrick and owners INEOS are aligned on the vision of making Tonali a Manchester United player.
Manchester United prepare £80 million Sandro Tonali bid
Manchester United are tipped to be willing to spend between £70 million and £80 million to prize Tonali away from Newcastle United.
The Magpies paid £55 million to sign the box-to-box midfielder from AC Milan in 2023 and are set to make a profit on the 26-year-old, should he leave Tyneside.
Eddie Howe’s side are in a position where they must sell before they buy this summer but pressure to do so has already been alleviated with the £70 million banked for the transfer of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona. The Magpies are in the process of splurging £24 million of that on young Reims goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.
The Red Devils are also linked with West Ham man Mateus Fernandes and Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. However, both those moves could be more expensive than a swoop for Tonali.
The Hammers are said to be playing hardball and wanting a lofty £80 million for Fernandes, despite relegation to the Championship, with Forest slapping a £100 million price tag on former Magpie Anderson.
Tonali’s agent hints at summer transfer move
Tonali signed a contract extension with Newcastle during his ban for breaching betting regulations, which extended his contract until 2029, with the option of an extra year.
That gives the North East outfit plenty of negotiating power, but it is expected that Tonali will push for a move this summer. The player’s agent has not been subtle in admitting that the midfielder would consider offers.
In February, Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso told Tuttosport: “Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League.
“These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.”
“There’s no preference at the moment. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point in moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club. We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer.”
Tonali is, of course, not involved at the World Cup this summer after Italy failed to qualify. That could help Manchester United expedite a transfer move before the end of the competition, with the club wanting to get business done early, just as they did for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo 12 months ago.
