Newcastle United’s valuation of Tonali makes clear they will play hard ball
  • A £100m price tag for Sandro Tonali has emerged amid massive interest
  • New Newcastle midfielder targets also reported
  • Could Tonali actually leave this summer?

A valuation of £100m has been placed on Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports in Italy. It is currently uncertain where the information came from, with suggestions that it may be directly from Tonali’s camp.

Despite his future being uncertain, Newcastle insiders have suggested that Tonali will not necessarily leave the club alongside Anthony Gordon as was first feared.

But reports are suspected to have come from Tonali’s representatives and, interestingly, aligned with some new updates about possible midfield signings this summer.

Howe wants to keep Tonali

Eddie Howe has made it clear he does not want the Italian to leave the club this summer, with the Newcastle boss already putting plans in place for him to join the leadership group.

Howe handed the midfielder his maiden cap in a Newcastle shirt a few weeks ago, which appeared a clear sign that Tonali was firmly in his plans going forward.

Newcastle are set to lose at least one big name this summer, with the most likely being Anthony Gordon right now. The Newcastle boss will be doing everything in his power to prevent losing two of his top players in one window.

The £100m valuation has served as a repellent for a few of the interested parties already. The quoted fee has ruled out all of the clubs in Serie A who had been implicated in a possible fairytale return for the Italian.

If the information has come from Tonali’s camp, it could serve as a ‘come and get me’ plea to the other clubs linked.

Tonali replacements emerge

The reports of a valuation being set were followed by some updates about Newcastle’s recruitment of midfielders ahead of the summer window.

Lamine Camara, who is also a target of Liverpool, is now said to be an even bigger point of focus for the Magpies, and the club are currently accelerating their pursuit of the Senegalese.

There have also been interesting developments in the saga of Aleksandar Stankovic, with an unnamed Premier League club said to have placed a bid for the Serb. Newcastle has been increasingly stated as a top suitor for Stankovic, leading to some claims that the bid is from the Magpies.

There have also been links to in-form Auxerre midfielder Kevin Danois, who is seen as a cheaper option with less competition than the likes of Camara.

Whilst it may be purely a coincidence, there has been some speculation that these stories emerged as a direct result of the alleged Sandro Tonali valuation.

Would anyone pay £100m for Tonali?

As mentioned, the fee almost certainly rules out the Serie A clubs.

The other interested parties include the likes of both Manchester United and City. But they are both also heavily interested in boyhood Geordie Elliot Anderson, who is likely to cost around a similar amount.

Should either of those clubs miss out on Anderson, they could turn their attention to Sandro Tonali. Bruno Guimaraes has also been linked with both of the Manchester clubs, and the Magpies need to be careful in avoiding a complete collapse of their elite playing hierarchy.

Tonali has also been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid in the past. Los Blancos could be prepared to make a move for the Iatlian, especially if Eduardo Camavinga’s uncertain future lies away from the Bernebau.
