After the manner in which the move for Victor Munoz collapsed, and he ended up at Liverpool, most Newcastle United fans will be wary of getting too comfortable when it comes to transfer speculation. The Bazoumana Toure is now official. That is a relief.
Johan Manzambi is believed to be the next player on Newcastle United’s radar. It has been suggested by reliable outlets that the club are preparing an official bid for the Swiss midfielder.
At the same time though, it would be a mistake to think that the situation is very advanced and that it is only a matter of time before the move is completed. That does not seem to be the case at all if comments from a Sky Sport journalist are anything to go by.
Sky Sport journalist’s Johan Manzambi update will worry Newcastle United fans
According to Florian Plettenberg, Newcastle United appreciate Manzambi highly. The Magpies have been informed of all the key terms and financial details.
However, Plettenberg makes it clear that there is still no club-to-club agreement. Concrete negotiations have not started yet. SC Freiburg are currently demanding up to €60 million following Manzambi’s outstanding World Cup performances.
Several other top clubs are also keen on the Swiss international midfielder. The 20-year-old has been very impressive at the World Cup, with three goals and two assists to his name in just two starts.
So, it is very easy to see why other clubs might be interested. Newcastle United have been in this situation before with Munoz and we all know how that ended.
The Magpies should move quickly and get a deal done if they want to sign Manzambi. Otherwise, they are leaving the window of opportunity wide open for others to swoop in after seeing the midfielder’s World Cup performances.
Manzambi has been a revelation at the World Cup
Every World Cup, there are some players who end up enjoying breakthrough tournaments and get big moves after it. Manzambi could very well fall under that category.
It is believed that Newcastle United have had him on their radar for quite some time now. But it is safe to say that the player’s transfer value has ballooned based on his displays at the tournament.
That is not to say that he was not impressive before the World Cup. Manzambi did scored seven goals and provide nine assists for SC Freiburg across all competitions last season.
But now, he has gone from being one of the Bundesliga’s fastest-rising stars to someone who has proven himself in the biggest sporting event on the planet. The level of interest is certainly going to be magnified.
