- Newcastle United linked with Jarrod Bowen
- West Ham has spoken positively about Magpies
- Respect for St James’ Park atmosphere
Newcastle United transfer excitement on Tuesday has been focused on links to West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen as the Magpies look to replace outbound Anthony Gordon.
Eddie Howe continues to leave Gordon on the bench amid talks with Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. The England international has been managing a hip niggle but the writing appears to be on the wall for Gordon’s imminent departure.
The Magpies will need to replace Gordon’s experience with a player ready to immediately impact the first team in an early departure from the new transfer strategy of recruiting future stars. The Daily Mail today reports that Jarrod Bowen could be the man wanted to do so.
Liverpool and Everton are both also linked with Bowen as West Ham supposedly accept that his six-year stay at the London Stadium could end this summer, even if Nuno Espirito Santo manages to keep the side in the Premier League.
Newcastle United linked with £60m Jarrod Bowen transfer
It would certainly be an exciting move for Magpies fans. Bowen has earned plaudits for his diligent work at West Ham, often turning up when his teammates are struggling. The former Hull City man has also become a regular England international.
Bowen has 64 goals and 53 assists in 236 top flight outings and would be a major coup for the Magpies. A £60 million price tag is touted.
Liverpool are certain to be able to offer Bowen the chance to play European football next season with Everton also more likely to achieve that than the Magpies. However, Eddie Howe’s side will remain hopeful given how positively Bowen has spoken of the Tyneside outfit.
Jarrod Bowen’s stance on Newcastle United
Newcastle already know Bowen’s verdict on how great a football club the Magpies are. When Howe first achieved European football with the side, ahead of taking on Newcastle that season, Bowen said: “What a game it will be! The way Newcastle have played since Eddie Howe joined has been excellent and they’re obviously playing in the Champions League now.
“For that city and those fans, that’s incredible. Sunday will be a tough, tough game. They’ve started the season strongly as well but we want to win the match.
“It’s the last game before the international break and it’s another opportunity for us to get three points and push up the table.
“It’s always a tasty game when we play them because they play at such a high intensity. They always bring a good away following too so it is set up for a really good game.”
In 2024, after helping West Ham to a 2-0 win at St James’ Park, Bowen also shared his respect for the atmosphere generated at the stadium. He said: “I said we needed a performance before the game and I think we did that.
“Newcastle always score at home so to keep them to a clean sheet and score two goals, it is an atmosphere that you have to control and I think we did that perfectly.
“You always are playing to win the games. We know the quality we have and it was a beautiful ball and a beautiful header. Then it was down to us to get the second goal. If you sit on a goal here it can come and haunt you.
“That was more like the level of what it takes to play for this club. The desire and work rate from everyone. A clean sheet away at Newcastle is not an easy thing.”
Bowen is certainly full of respect and admiration for Newcastle, but will that be enough to see the club win a potential transfer race?
