Newcastle United and Bayern Munich have begun talks over a summer transfer exit for winger Anthony Gordon with Eddie Howe pressed about the forward’s future in his press conference on Friday morning.

The England international has found himself at the centre of a transfer storm in recent weeks. Last month, it had been claimed that Gordon felt he had ‘outgrown’ the project on Tyneside and was keen for a new challenge.

The Magpies are set to miss out on Champions League football next season and Gordon, who bagged 10 goals in that competition this term, is thought to want to continue playing at that level.

Liverpool almost completed a transfer for the ex Everton man in 2024, while Arsenal have also been credited with interest. In recent weeks, however, it is Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich who have emerged as frontrunners.

Sky Sports reports that Bayern and Newcastle have now started formal talks over a transfer sale. Sky Sports adds that the two clubs have a ‘good relationship’ and that the German side have been interested in a move since the turn of the year.

Gordon’s agents had also been spotted holding talks with representatives at Barcelona this week with no shortage of serious European interest in the player’s services. The La Liga side are yet to formalise their interest in the player.

Speaking ahead of facing Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Howe was asked what he knew about ongoing talks.

Eddie Howe quizzed on Anthony Gordon future

The Newcastle manager said: “It is difficult for me to comment too much on individual players and timescales as that is going into an area that isn’t really my forte.

“I will leave that to other people. All I am doing is try and finish the season in a strong way and make sure players are committed to the here and now. There is no point looking to the future.

“The summer transfer window is difficult to predict and difficult to see what is going to happen on any level at this moment in time. We have three games to play and our full focus is on that.”

In other news, Newcastle United could unleash 19-year-old ‘next Lewis Miley’ vs Nottingham Forest after injury setback.
