- Newcastle United fans urge club to cash in on first team star
- 3/10 performance in Crystal Palace defeat
- Defender already linked with St James’ Park exit
Newcastle United supporters were hoping for a change in their form as they took on Crystal Palace, but a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta meant they walked away without a point, as they lost 2-1.
The performance at Selhurst Park has angered the fanbase, with many frustrated with their manager and several players for the lack of effort they displayed. Tino Livramento has faced plenty of backlash on social media for his below-par showing.
Some fans have even suggested that they would be fine if he never represents the club again, amid interest from Premier League clubs.
His header for the equaliser was viewed as ‘criminal’ and he was one of the worst players in Black and White this afternoon, as they once again struggled to pick up necessary points.
Livramento’s terrible performance
ReadNewcastle rated the full-back’s showing as a 3/10. We wrote: “Not his usual self today. The lazy air header prior to the Crystal Palace leveller was nothing short of criminal.”
Newcastle have looked fragile at the back throughout the season, despite standout single figures.
Lewis Hall has arguably been their player of the season, with his commitment being one of the main reasons he’s loved at St James’ Park.
Malick Thiaw has settled in well since his move from AC Milan, while Aaron Ramsdale has done a fine job since replacing an out-of-form Nick Pope.
However, despite his position in the England set-up, Livramento’s performances have increasingly become a worry.
His fitness issues have been a concern, having missed three extended periods this season with injuries to his knee and hamstring. It’s not just the injuries, but the displays which are causing distress for the fans.
Fans believe his attitude towards the club isn’t right at the moment, with possible links to Manchester City and Arsenal playing in his mind. The Sun had touted a £60 million valuation in January.
In the league this season, he has played 16 games and has just a single assist, while also being flimsy in defensive phases.
Should Newcastle United sell?
With the result, it looks all but a foregone conclusion that Newcastle will miss out on European football next season, with Eddie Howe basically confirming this in his press conference.
Kieran Trippier has already announced that he will be leaving this summer, and without Europe, sales of key players will be required if the club are to not only advance but also avoid any problems with Profit and Sustainability rules.
Sandro Tonali looks like he will be one of the players off, but according to the fans, the 23-year-old should also be off.
The Toon Army expect someone willing to run through a wall to make sure the Magpies come away with results, and that’s why his full back teammates in Trippier and Hall are so loved on Tyneside.
Livramento doesn’t fit the bill, and without quality on the ball, it’s hard for the fanbase to see what he’s offering the team.
There is no question that Howe has had a poor season, which will likely lead to him leaving. However, players like Livramento are just as much of a problem.
