- Real Madrid open to selling Camavinga
- £45m initial asking price
- Newcastle must try if Tonali leaves
Real Madrid are reportedly open to letting Eduardo Camavinga leave this summer if they receive a worthy offer, per L’Equipe.
The Spanish giants are said to be rather underwhelmed with the Frenchman’s progress over the last couple of seasons. Camavinga has now slipped down the pecking order and is struggling for consistent minutes.
With Sandro Tonali increasingly implicated in transfer rumours ahead of the summer window, Newcastle face a battle to keep hold of their midfield maestro. This could leave the door open for a possible swoop for Camavinga if the Magpies are looking to bolster their options.
Out of favour Camavinga
Camavinga has been a sporadic part of Real Madrid’s starting XI this season, as evidenced by being the first to be taken off in the weekend’s disappointing defeat against RCD Mallorca.
There is speculation he has even fallen behind academy graduate Thiago Pitarch in Arbeloa’s view, despite the 18-year-old having just nine senior games under his belt.
This has brought the Frenchman’s place in Deschamps’ World Cup squad into question. The Los Blancos midfielder only managed 26 minutes across the two games in the most recent international break.
Real Madrid could well be open to cashing in this summer, and Camavinga may well be open to finding a home that gives him regular playing time ahead of next season.
Camavinga to Newcastle?
Reports suggest that Real Madrid may be open to accepting initial bids of as little as £45m when the transfer window opens.
Should the Magpies offload Sandro Tonali to one of the interested parties for an expected sum of around £90m, they could turn their attention to the Frenchman as a replacement.
Marca has suggested that Camavinga will definitely join a Premier League club if he leaves Madrid, with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool also interested parties.
If Newcastle were to target Camavinga and get a deal over the line, a lot of pieces would likely have to fall in place.
The current trajectory would see Newcastle miss out on European football, which would make a deal for the French midfielder very difficult given the interest from other clubs.
What Camavinga would bring to Newcastle
In the case of Tonali’s departure, Camavinga would be a very adept replacement for the Italian.
Camavinga largely occupies the defensive midfield role, although he can play in a variety of positions.
His off-the-ball running is exceptional, and his defensive contributions are elite. These two attributes alone would be the perfect antidote to Tonali’s absence.
Add to that the Real Madrid man’s pinpoint passing, ball-progressing abilities and the potential for his creativity to blossom to elite levels, and Camavinga would be an excellent addition to the Newcastle ranks.
