At a glance
- Newcastle and Chelsea pursue Allan
- The young Brazilian is making a name for himself
- The Magpies could delve into South American market
Newcastle United are showing significant interest in Palmeiras player Allan, but Chelsea are also looking to sign the 21-year-old during the summer.
Reports in Brazil claim that Newcastle have sent scouts to watch him and assess his value, and potentially open contract talks. Chelsea already have a relationship with the Brazilian club, after they signed Brazilian wonderkid Estevao in a £29 million deal.
The Magpies have focused on signing talented youngsters in recent years, including Antonio Cordero, who joined from Malaga last summer. Eddie Howe will be hoping Allan can be the next on the list.
Allan’s Quality
Allan broke into the Palmeiras team in 2025, making 28 appearances in Serie A, with most coming from the bench. During that run, he registered two goals and three assists.
These performances helped him travel with the team to the Club World Cup last summer, where they were eventually knocked out by Chelsea in the quarter-finals. He has been heavily featured on the right wing recently, but he is also capable of playing in several roles, such as right midfield, attacking midfield, and coming off the left.
So far this season, he has made six league appearances, with two goals, and he has started in five of them. He has developed a lot since breaking through to the first team, having progressed through the Palmeiras academy with Estevao and Endrick, who is now on loan at Lyon from Real Madrid.
He is someone who likes to cut inside on his left foot and unleash shots from distance; however, it’s not just the attacking output that has Premier League clubs interested, as his defensive work rate and willingness to help his team out are seen as great signs for a young prospect.
Newcastle will have competition for his signature in the summer, but they will hope they can bring this attacking talent to St James’ Park.
Scouting South America
Newcastle’s midfield is seen as one of the strongest in the Premier League, with two of their main players coming from South America.
Joelinton began his career at Sport Club do Recife, who are now a second division side in Brazil, while Bruno Guimaraes made a name for himself at Club Athletico Paranaense.
Premier League clubs are now looking to directly identify the best young players coming through South America, as we have seen with Estevao at Chelsea and Rayan, who has made a strong start at Bournemouth since arriving in January.
Chelsea has been particularly keen in this area since the Clearlake takeover in 2022. The Blues were reportedly monitoring the young Brazilian last November alongside Real Madrid and Manchester United, per Fichajes.
With the impact of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and the effects they have had on Newcastle, such as the sale of Elliot Anderson, it could be a strong idea for the Magpies to explore the South American market.
Fans may argue that players aren’t fully ready to take to the pitch in the league, but some players have shown that quality, while the loan market can be a great alternative, which Newcastle have used to their advantage before, like Yankuba Minteh’s loan to Feyenoord.
If Newcastle want to identify the next generation of talent, it might be players like Allan that the club decide to take a chance on.
