Newcastle shouldn’t sign Wilfried Zaha

Newcastle United could benefit from strengthening their wide options as Miguel Almiron only has one goal and zero assists this season while Jacob Murphy has contributed three goals all campaign, so it’s no surprise to see them linked with Wilfried Zaha.

The 29-year-old has one year remaining on his deal at Crystal Palace and might have to be sold rather than be allowed to run his contract down, so Newcastle have a good chance of landing his signature this summer.

Zaha has played nearly 300 games in the Premier League and boasts double figures for league goals in three of his last four seasons at Selhurst Park, but the Ivorian international may not be a value-for-money acquisition.

The 29-year-old earns £130k-per-week/£6.8m-a-year in South London which would make him Newcastle’s highest earner if signed. His market value is £36m, so a typical three-year deal would set the Magpies back £56m.

And while Zaha brings goals, his decision-making isn’t always sound. The Ivorian averages a shot on target in the league every 92.6 minutes despite averaging a shot every 39.5 minutes. Zaha averages one accurate cross every 200 minutes this season too, so are there better options for Newcastle?

In other news, Newcastle should push for Jesse Lingard

matchday.
