Journalists say Krafth was ‘vital’ in Leicester win

Newcastle United enjoyed a 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon and Emil Krafth was one of many players who impressed.

The 27-year-old started on the right of a back-four containing Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Matt Targett and played his part in limiting the Foxes to only two shots on target at St James’ Park.

Matt O’Connor-Simpson of 90min gave Krafth a player rating of 7/10 and called some of his defending ‘vital’ to keeping Newcastle in the game. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave the 27-year-old a player rating of 9/10 and said he put in ‘a steely display’ by turning over possession so many times.

Dominic Scurr of Shields Gazette opted for a player rating of 8/10, describing Krafth’s defending as ‘crucial’ in certain moments while saying Sunday’s performance was his ‘best’ of the season.

Against Leicester, the Swedish international played for 90 minutes, had 61 touches, competed 60% of his passes, whipped in one cross, made seven tackles, had three interceptions, made one clearance and won one freekick.

Krafth was brilliant defensively as Kieran Trippier is recovering from injury, so Howe can trust the former until the latter is fully fit.
