Journalists hail ‘fantastic’ Guimaraes v Leicester

Bruno Guimaraes was one of many players to impress as Newcastle United beat Leicester City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old scored two goals as the Magpies picked up all three points at the death and was praised by journalists for his performance at St James’ Park.

Matt O’Connor-Simpson of 90min gave Guimaraes a player rating of 8/10 and said he was ‘impressive’ in possession while being a ‘cut above’ his teammates. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave the Brazilian international a player rating of 10/10, saying he displayed ‘fantastic’ movement and never gave in.

Dominic Scurr of Shields Gazette opted for a player rating of 8/10 and said Guimaraes ‘came to life’ after getting on the scoresheet. Fans have fallen in love with the defensive-midfielder and performances on Sunday are exactly why.

Against Leicester, Guimaraes played for 90 minutes, scored two goals, had 46 touches, completed 81% of his 21 passes, created one chance, had four shots on target, whipped in one cross, made four tackles, had one interception, blocked one shot and pulled off three successful dribbles.

The 24-year-old has made 11 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring three goals. He’s won seven times and drawn one.
