Journalists say Almiron ‘didn’t take chance’ in 1-0 defeat

Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Everton on Thursday and Miguel Almiron was one of many players who underperformed. The 28-year-old hasn’t played much football of late but was handed a second consecutive start by Eddie Howe. Unfortunately, he didn’t vindicate the decision and ended up being hooked in the second half after failing to make a telling impact.

Jordan Cronin of Newcastle World gave Almiron a player rating of 6/10 and said he ‘lacked quality’ despite putting in a lot of effort. Gareth Cox of The National News gave the Paraguayan international a player rating of 6/10 and was critical of how frequently he went down to challenges. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave him a player rating of 6/10 and said it wasn’t a surprise he was subbed, even if he worked hard. Tom Gott of 90min gave Almiron a player rating of 5/10 but praised one dribble he had before being taken off.

Against Everton, the 28-year-old played for 70 minutes, had 40 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 88.9% of his 27 passes, created one chance, had one shot which didn’t hit the target, whipped in one cross which failed to find a teammate, made three tackles, gave away one foul and had two successful dribbles.

Almiron has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season, failing to score or make an assist. His future at St James’ Park hangs in the balance.

In other news, journalists say Bruno Guimaraes was ‘a class above’ despite 1-0 defeat

matchday.
