Fans on social media blast ‘ridiculous’ demands as Newcastle deal for Lingard collapses

Newcastle United are 14th in the Premier League for shots (11.4 per game) and 17th in the league for goals (21), so it’s clear the Magpies have a problem in attack.

Not only do Newcastle struggle in front of goal, they don’t create enough chances either, so it’s no surprise that Eddie Howe has a playmaker is on his January wishlist. Jesse Lingard was on the Toon Army’s radar, but a deal for the 29-year-old could fall through.

Craig Hope and Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail say Manchester United are demanding £15m in fees and wages for a half-season loan, so Newcastle aren’t going to match their demands. Fans on social media applaud the stance and blasted the Red Devils for their greed.

Lingard has made 224 appearances in all competitions for United, scoring 35 goals with 21 assists. The England international struggled to nail down a starting place last season which resulted in him being loaned out to West Ham United (16 appearances, nine goals, five assists).

Lingard’s form in London is exactly why Newcastle want him in the North-East, but it doesn’t appear they’ll be successful in signing him.
